Founded in 1985, the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS in Erlangen ranks first among the Fraunhofer Institutes concerning headcount (650 staff members) and revenues. As the inventor of mp3 and co-inventor of the MPEG 4 AAC audio coding standard, Fraunhofer IIS has reached worldwide recognition. It provides research services on contract basis and technology licensing. Research topics presented at MWC 2010 are audio and video source coding, wireless networks and localization and navigation. At MWC 2010 we launch our city-wide in- and outdoor positioning technology “awiloc” for autarky, meter accurate positioning of mobile phones.
